December 4th, 2020 - 9:00 am to 4:00 pm

New Hire Virtual Workshop

The Morning – Reading Assessment with Jodi Regier
In this half day virtual session, explore what assessment in reading looks like when the lens of triangulation is applied. Examine how products, observations, and conversations inform your assessment information. This session offers participants the chance to engage and interact through virtual tools, while co-creating success criteria, exploring sources of information about readers, and building common understanding of assessing key reading concepts and sources of information.
The Afternoon – Math Assessment with Kit Luce, an ETFO presenter who workshop is entitled, Assess or Mess: How to Make Sense of What Students Say, Do and Write
Elementary teachers know that mathematics instruction and assessment can be complex, messy, and overwhelming. On a daily basis, we are using our professional judgment to make instructional decisions based on the assessment of student learning. This is especially true in a year when there is a new curriculum to implement along with significant learning concerns connected to Covid-19.

This workshop will explore the different components of comprehensive instruction and assessment plan:  planning instruction with assessment in mind, assessment versus evaluation, making use of the achievement chart categories, and triangulation of information (observations, conversations, and products). We will consider high impact instructional practices that will allow you better meet the needs of your learners and how to bring it all together in a plan that provides multiple opportunities for students to demonstrate the full range of their learning.

Laura Inglis-Eickmeier, Vice President of AMETL – A Questions and Answer Session regarding the Collective Agreement and Benefits
To bridge the two sessions, Local Released Officer, Laura Inglis-Eickmeier, will have a short presentation on FAQs about the collective agreement and benefits, as well, there will be time for questions.  There is also an opportunity for you to note any questions you have for Laura on the registration form.
