Climate Change and Social Justice Workshop

Hello Teachers,

Consider registering for the Climate Change and Social Justice workshop with Jacqueline Whelan which is being held via Zoom on Wednesday, May 5 from 4:30-6:30.  Thank you to the ETFO Teachers’ Local Environmental Committee for sponsoring what will be the last ETFO sponsored workshop for the year.

In this workshop, participants will explore a variety of environmental education practices that support students and their development of 21st-century skills needed to tackle issues such as climate change. Participants will investigate transformative teaching practices in an interactive way, first at the local level (e.g., inquiry into local water issues and impacts of climate change), then expand their understanding of how these issues are impacting populations in Canada (e.g., First Nations, Métis and Inuit communities), and finally to vulnerable populations worldwide. From an ETFO lens of equity and social justice, participants will explore resources to support the facilitation of inquiry and action with their students on the environment, climate change, human rights and social justice. Participants will discuss inspirational and empowered youth who are active in the current environmental movement, as well as steps to support youth in a way that leaves us feeling optimistic and hopeful about the future.
This workshop will be geared to elementary students of all ages unless registration indicates the members would prefer a narrower focus.

The link for the workshop will be sent out on the day of the workshop and registration is limited so register early.
If you have any further questions please reach out.
Take care,
Kim Finlayson
